In order to study the effects of aqua-acupuncture on diabetic rabbits induced by alloxan, the changes of insulin, blood glucagon, triglyceride, glucose, and total cholesterol in serum were measured after the daily injection of distilled red ginseng radix extract into the loci correspondin to Choksamni (ST36) and Samumgyo (SP6) of the human body for 14 days.
The obtained results were as follows :
1. The level of insulin of control group was strikingly decreased after injuction of alloxan while those of Choksamni and Samumgyo groups were significantly increased and that of blank locus group was increased with no significance.
2. The level of blood glucagon of control group was strikingly increased while those of Choksamni and Samumgyo groups were decreased respectively on the 1st, 3rd and 7th days and that of blank locus group was decreased with no significance.
3. The level of blood triglyceride of control group was strikingly increased while those of Choksamni and Samumgyo groups were significantly decreased in all the days and that of blank locus group was decreased with significance on the 3rd days.
4. The level of blood glucose of control group was strikingly increased while those of Choksamni and Samumgyo groups were significantly decreased in all the days and that of blank locus group was decreased with significance on the 14th days.
5. The level of blood total cholesterol of control group was strikingly increased while those of Choksamni and Samumgyo groups were significantly decreased in all the days and that of blank locus group was decreased whth no significance.
According to the above results, it seems that red ginseng radix aqua-acupuncture to Choksamni and Samumgyo made significant effects on the levels of insulin, glucagon, triglyceride, glucose and total cholesterol in the alloxan-induced diabetic rats and so it is recommended to make use of red ginseng radix aqua-acupuncture in diabetes mellitus and its complications.
